Distt. Yamuna Nagar came into existence on 1 November 1989 and it is the one of the 21 total dists of Haryana.Before independence of India,The old name of Yamuna Nagar was Abdulahpur. It was a small village which was populated near Railway Station, Jagadhri. After independence of India in 1947 many refugee from Punjab, Pakistan preferred to settle in Yamuna nagar as their new home. The place which was allocated to refugees after independence now-a-days known as Model Town. |

| The surroundings of Yamuna Nagar is consisted of Sirmour dist of Himachal Pardesh in the North, Saharanpur,Uttar Pardesh on its East, and South by Karnal dist, Southwest it is surrounded by Kurukshetra dist and in its west is Ambala District. Jagadhari and Yamuna Nagar are twin cities. The district covering the area of 1756 square Kms and Yamuna Nagar town is district headquaters. Whole district is consisting of 441 Panchayats, 623 villages, 3 tehsils (These are further divided into 6 development Blocks: Bilaspur, Chhachhrauli, Mustafabad, Sadhaura, Radaur and Jagadhri ), 2 sub divisons and 3 sub tehsils. Most of the district part spread under the Shiwalik foothills.
